Fazor
Company:
Mad Catz Score: 57%
Product: Fazor
Function:
The Mad Catz Fazor is a light gun. It looks cool. Very cool. It works with PSX and that system named after a planet. Unfortunately, its control suffers greatly from the shortened barrel and lens placement. Quite often a small wrist motion will send your aim off-screen. However, if you can master the Fazor, you could quite possibly be the fastest gun around.

Performance:
The Fazor takes some practice. The gun seems to over-respond to pivoting the wrist because the lens is located directly above the trigger. I find that after using this gun for quite some time, I still achieved a better performance using a more conventional light gun.
The Mad Catz Fazor has bad response on the outer limits of the screen. This is due to the unique placement of the lens resulting from its compact design. Otherwise, the gun control is fairly average. The Fazor is lightweight -- also due to its compact design.

Drawbacks and Problems:
While this gun looks very cool, its design makes it hypersensitive to slight wrist movements. Aiming somewhat accurately takes some getting used to. (A lot.) Also, while the gun has a lengthy cord and is supposed to work up to 10 feet from the screen, my tests showed a rapid decline in accuracy as distance increased, with a well defined point at which the gun would not work (even in a darkened room) at a mere 6 ? feet -- a little more than half of Mad Catz? maximum distance claim. In addition, the Fazor has no extra features, which is quickly becoming unacceptable in modern gaming.
